It's the little things that count!
This morning I was getting my usual cheese and tomato toasted sandwich from the cafe downstairs.
Nothing unusual about that - however, they have hired a new staff member who has served me both day's this week. Normally being half asleep and not very motivated to talk early in the morning I tend to be in my own little world. Today, this new employee introduced herself and asked me my name to which I duly responded - "Chris". Well Susie (her name) gave me my sandwich and wished me well for the day. I left the cafe, actually feeling quite positive from this experience. When it was time to get my lunch, more out of curiosity (and the fact that it was raining!), I went back to the cafe. Susie was one of the staff serving behind the counter - when it was my turn to order, she greeted me by my name with a smile - again another positive experience.
These days I find it rare that people go to the effort of making interactions positive, but I know that I will be giving more patronage to this cafe - they personalised my experience, made the act of getting a sandwich enjoyable and will have one more person prefering to visit them rather than the other ten food outlets within a short distance.
It does go to show that it is the little things that count!
